Nyx, is a heavy instrument that uses the kinetic energy produced by pedaling, as a source of electricity. Such a condition makes it possible that, with great physical effort, a mobile light projection system (Soviet slide projectors) can be kept active.
The project was designed and built in collaboration with self-taught Cuban mechanics, using objects acquired on national black market networks. Its design is based on tricycles produced by hand to carry out loading and distribution of construction materials, food and urban transport. It is made up of obsolete components of various origins, which symbolically represent political powers with which our country has interacted in its recent history (USSR, GDR, USA, China); vestiges of bygone ages.
The concept of the work assumes the recycling and re-functionalization of objects as part of the socio-cultural behavior of the Cuban nation. In it ingenuity subverts the living conditions of objects and produces beautiful combinations that exude will. Nyx is the portrait of the nation from a present marked by inventiveness as a means of subsistence. A tribute to our past-present, to the ability to be dissatisfied and irreverent while dragging and sustaining a long and heavy history.
While stuck in the street, the energy produced by the constant movement of a man in technological hybridity - sweat, strength, will, wear - make the light from the projectors to collide, fragment and dissipate in the space.
