180.ECHO

Electromechanical work designed and installed in the basement of a factory in Leipzig, Germany.

Based on the operation of a common object that has become a relic, this project addresses the fragility and variability of political power structures.

The work consists of a self-sufficient system that modulates the signal of an analog radio in the reception space of the official channel of the disappeared RDA. Indefinitely a motor oscillates between the extremes of the coordinates corresponding to the extinct DDR radio.

The result of this operation is a sound product where static and noise accumulate, producing at a physiological level a type of sound that is unbearable for some visitors and pleasant for others.

This conceptual operation becomes an act of invasion that finds in the humidity and darkness of the basement of a disused factory a symbolic space that feeds on the political and socio-cultural context of Leipzig as a former part of the socialist block.
